While generative design is most commonly applied to structures, there are also solutions for fluid flow applications. At Autodesk, Dan pioneered the application of ‘generative cooling’ to injection mould design for clients in consumer products, medical and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industries. Generative cooling can be thought of as an optimised version of conformal cooling where heat transfer to the coolant is maximised. It has the potential to drastically reduce cooling cycles; in some cases, by up to 25%.
