Dan’s enthusiasm for applying cutting edge manufacturing to real world applications led him to partner with Oak Ridge National Lab’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility. Through this partnership, he led the development of hybrid manufacturing, a term that refers to machines capable of both additive and subtractive (machining) processes. This application takes an injection mould tool insert, physically erases part of the pattern with machining, redeposits new material, and then machines a new pattern.
